Actually that is already in February 2008 that the study in question was published in the journal Archives for Sexual Behavior , but only a few weeks ago, some sites have bounced the news. Used mainly in cases of congenital adrenal hyperplasia ( CAH ) seems likely to have considerable influence on sexual orientation of gay and bi female fetuses with CAH.
The intake of this drug during pregnancy would also prevent the development of behavior just "heterosexual" in situations typical of CAH: low desire to marry and little interest in playing with dolls ("Mom and Daughter"), in caring for infants, in daydreaming or fantasizing about pregnancy and motherhood. All things that are known to not belong to lesbians, but only to heterosexual women 
Now, beyond the possible implications of the idea of "gay gene", is simply absurd to think, in my view, that medicine can or should intervene * someone's sexual orientation, as it would be absurd to suggest a remedy for stupidity or arrogance.

It is not a hoax, perhaps as you write a "misunderstanding" media. The article was inspired by the original published in February 2010 and comments from other sites anglofani. In fact the ability to influence behaviors related to sexual orientation through the use of drugs is highly questionable.

I've also heard the news that has bounced in recent weeks. The thing seemed so absurd (strange that a 'endocrinologist make statements like that - a drug to avoid giving birth lesbians!?!) I have downloaded the "paper" in question and I gave him a look.
I insist that it is incorrect to say that Dr. New has suggested using dexamethasone to prevent lesbianism. The drug is used for several years now to prevent masculinization of external genitalia in female fetuses with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which exposes the fetus to abnormal levels of androgens. Dr. New has shown that semplicemenete between CAH females the frequency of homosexuality and bisexuality is greater than in females not affected by this disease. The drug is administered to avoid girls who are born with ambiguous genitalia surgery, certainly not to avoid becoming lesbians (if anything this is a "side effect"). To date, therefore, no doctor is suggesting to us the "cure" homosexuality. Here, so I think we face the nth mispronunciation of news from the scientific world.

I can only express my indignation at the absurdity and lack of scientific basis of certain pseudo-professional practices.
