What is Counseling?
Counseling is a 'professional activity that directs, encourages, supports and develops the potential of the person and his quality of life, encouraging active and proactive attitudes, knowledge and resources that everyone possesses.
The main objective is to enable and encourage a realistic view of themselves and their environment (social, familial, emotional, occupational) and remove the obstacles that prevent full and free expression, finding a starting point because it can be change.
Who needs it?
To all those who are facing a crisis or particular stress, a stalemate and feel the need for listening and discussion, without the need of a psychotherapeutic intervention.
Examples are:
- I discovered that my son is gay and I do not know how to deal with this situation.
- I'm gay and I can not accept it.
- My girlfriend has trouble accepting her lesbianism, and I do not know how to help.
- I am a lesbian but I want a son. I'm torn because I do not want him to suffer.
- I am a practicing Catholic and I discovered to be gay. I'm sick and I do not know what to do.
- I think that there is no need to tell everyone that they are homosexual. But I feel bad because I'm afraid that my finding out.
But how long?
Depends on the problem presented and the degree of actual motivation of the person. Being focused on a specific area is generally short-medium term and provides for weekly or fortnightly meetings.
